The Upside of Unrequited
The Upside of Unrequited
By: Becky Albertalli
Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Molly Peskin-Suso knows all about unrequited love- she's lived through it twenty-six times. She crushed hard and crushes often, but always in secret. Because no matter how many times her twin sister, Cassie, tells her to woman up, Molly can't stomach the idea of rejection. So she's careful. Fat girls always have to be careful.
Then a cute girl enters Cassie's orbit, and for the first time ever, Molly's cynical twin is a lovesick mess. Meanwhile, Molly's totally not dying of loneliness-except for the part where is she is. Luckily, Cassie's new girlfriend comes with a cute hipster-boy sidekick. Will is funny and flirtatious and just might be perfect crush material. Maybe more than crush material. And if Molly can win him over, She'll get her first kiss and she'll get her twin back.
There's only one problem: Molly's coworker Reid. He's an awkward Tolkein superfan with a season pass to the Ren Faire, and there's absolutely no way Molly could fall for him.
Opinion/Overview
I read a book by Becky Albertalli and absolutely loved it. Like any other person who reads a book by a author they like, I would pick up another book they wrote and read it.
When I read Simon .VS. The Homosapien Agenda it was great, and I ended up reading The Upside of Unrequited and fell in love.
Molly and her twin sister Cassie are ginger, freckled faced surrogate babies from a sperm donor, with one of their mothers being black. They also have a Two-Year-Old brother named Xavier who was also from a sperm donor. Cassie is a lesbian and Molly is not. Cassie is tall and skinny, Molly is short and chubby. Molly is nothing like Cassie, Molly doesn't only consider Cassie her twin sister but her bestfriend. They do everything together. Once Cassie starts bringing her girlfriend around, her girlfriend brings a friend along that Molly has a crush on, who's name is Will. Once Cassie gets a girlfriend she basically shuts Molly out, which causes Molly to get a job at a craft store.
At the craft shop Molly meets Reid. Reid is this nerdy chubby guy whos parents own the craft store. Molly spends a lot of time with Reid but think nothing of it.
When Molly's mothers found out that Washington legalized Gay marriages they immediately got engaged. Molly being the 'Pinterest' type of girl she decided she was gonna plan and create.
So far this book is really good. I plan on finishing it some time soon and once I do I will write my Opinion/Summary/Rant...if I have a rant.
