 Simon

Summary

Sixteen-year-old and not so openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an e-mail falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk  of being thrust into the spotlight if he doesn't do what he is told.

 Opinions/Rant/Spoilers.

I absolutely adored this book. Becky Albertalli really reached into the mind of a person who is struggling to figure out who he is. She painted a beautiful picture on what was going through his mind, or the situations he faced.
The summary didn't really give you much to know about the book. In a way I guess it would be giving to much away.
Simon is a sixteen-year-old boy who has yet to figure himself out completely. He knows he's gay. He knows that he wants no one to know yet. But he is E-mailing this mystery boy. Code name: Blue.
Blue and Simon go to the same school. Blue is always grammatically correct, and has a wild obsession with Oreos and Peanut Butter cups.
One day Simon forget to log off on the school computer and Martin reads him and Blue's e-mails. Now Martin knows. He basically blackmails Simon. Simon has to help Martin get one of his friends Abby to date him. Now pause, is this kid Martin so desperate that he needs to blackmail someone into talking to a girl? This is a situation people go through everyday and your gonna treat it likes its nothing? Anyway, Simon has no other choice but 'help' Martin.
Simon has three bestfriends Leah, Nick, and Abby. Leah is in love with Nick and Nick is in love with Abby. Talk about a High School love triangle.
Throughout the book Simon is trying to figure out who Blue is. He knows that if he shows his true identity that things would be ruined. But he can't help but want to know. They give each other these clues to help each other. (well not so much as clues but things that they adore).
Martin gets rejected from Abby and he has a meltdown. He freaks out on Simon and blames him for everything. Now Simon believes 'this is it, I'm out. He is gonna tell the whole world. No point in going back.' and he was right, Martin was so mad that he went online and basically told the whole school. Now Simon couldn't even come out when he was comfortable. He couldn't do it when the time was right for him. That is unfair.
Simon has an idea who Blue is and when he tells Blue he is dead wrong. Now Blue knows exactly who Simon is, With the wrong guess Blue doesn't want to tell Simon who he really is.
After the innocent and his younger sister now knowing he might as well tell the rest of his family and when is the better time to do it? Christmas Morning that's when.
He doesn't know how is parents are gonna react so he starts the conversation off with
" I have to tell you guys something."
His father responds with " oh let me guess... you got someone pregnant , you are pregnant, or... your gay"
He tries to make it as a joke and says "Yup I'm Pregnant. But no really I'm gay."
Utter silence. His sisters were supportive, his mom was as well he didn't really know but his dad (until the end... with being okay with it).
After Christmas break was over it was time to go back to school.
Simon finds a present tied to his locker. It is a Elliott Smith shirt. He knows its from Blue but is now upset that he still has no idea who Blue really is.
Now that the whole school knows he is getting all of this new attention from people he has never even talkin too. Mostly positive and some negative.  People react differently to things like this. We would like them to be with things like this but sometimes people don't turn out the way we want them to.
Eventually Simon finds out who Blue is eventually. He told him to meet him at the fair after the play was over. That's where he finds out who Blue and it turns out to be one of the many people he sit with during lunch.
Simon is going through something a lot of people go through. Whether they're in High School or Adults, Sometimes its bigger. Some people are transgender. It's not something easy to tell the world who you really are because there will always be someone who will judge.
Simon feels like he's stuck on a Ferris wheel, one minute he is on top of the world, then the next he's at rock bottom. No matter what announcing yourself to the world is pretty terrifying. What if the world doesn't like you?
He doesn't think its fair that only gay people have to come out, Why is straight the default? Image result for simon vs the homosapien agenda quotesRelated image
